BATH CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STANDS WITH REFUGEES DURING AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL UK’S FOOTBALL WELCOMES MONTH
Clubs across the UK join Amnesty’s Football Welcomes campaign to show solidarity with those who have fled conflict and persecution. On Saturday Bath City FC joined football clubs across the country this April to welcome refugees and people seeking asylum, as Amnesty International’s Football Welcomes campaign returns for its sixth year. To mark the month, Bath City FC invited local refugees and people seeking asylum to attend the home match on April 15th free of charge, with children welcomed to participate in a kickaround on the main stadium pitch.
Football Welcomes, which is supported by the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, celebrates the role football can play in bringing people together with the aim of creating more welcoming communities for refugees. Bath City FC is one of many clubs from across the Premier League, English Football League, FA Women’s Super League, Championship and National League, Cymru North and South, and grassroots teams that have signed up to take part in Football Welcomes.
The Bath City FC Foundation are delighted to set up a partnership with Julian House and now run a football session specifically for refugee families which is held on Tuesday evenings at Bath Rec. Currently we have 9 young people participating weekly and funding for this project has been secured until September thanks to the Somerset FA. We are delighted to see the positive difference football can make for young refugees and their families living in Bath.
